Symptoms Of An Unhealthy Brain

While I am about to share with you the most common symptoms of an unhealthy brain, rest assured that if you are experiencing any of these, the health of your brain is within your control!!

Symptoms include:

  • Depression/Sadness/Mood Swings
  • Anxiety/Stress/Panic Attacks
  • Chronic Fatigue/Wired & Tired
  • Unfocused/Mentally Absent/Forgetfulness/Short Term Memory Loss/Brain Fog
  • Digestive Issues/Weak Immune System

How did we get here?

There are so many factors that play into the health of our brains, such as:

  • Diet
  • Lifestyle
  • Exercise
  • Environment
  • Hormonal Imbalance
  • Sleep Deprivation

The brain is the control center of our thoughts, actions, decisions, metabolism and bodily movements and functions.  The brain sends signals throughout our whole body.

However, we do have a second brain, and that is our gut.  We have a gut/brain connection, and if one isn’t healthy, the other one suffers too.

The brain and the gut are in constant communication.  Our thoughts, negative or positive have a profound effect on our gut.

Our second brain, the gut is a bit trickier to get back under control as it is super sensitive to stress, toxins, allergens including food allergies or intolerances.

I know for me if I get super nervous or stressed out my stomach gets upset and it continues to be upset even after everything is fine.  My brain recognizes it’s all ok, but not my stomach!

Ever eaten something that caused your body distress? Chances are you couldn’t go on about your day full throttle or think straight; you felt all discombobulated and foggy.

We cannot heal the brain without healing the gut; they go hand in hand.

The biggest culprit that will take your health down quickly is consuming large amounts of highly processed foods.

Have you ever watch the TV show Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit?  It’s a show where personal trainers have four months to gain 30% of their current body weight, and they are not allowed to workout the entire time.

They do this to put themselves in their client’s shoes, to know and understand what their clients go through on a daily basis. Then they take the next four months and lose the weight with their client through diet and exercise.

The trainers have a hard time at first eating all the junk and processed foods.  But then, something clicks in their brain, and they want more and more. This is first-hand proof that processed foods are highly addictive.

The chemicals and sugar in processed food hit the dopamine receptors in the brain, and that reward chemical is released and oh does it feel good!

But over time, the more junk they ate, the more weight they gained and the worse they felt.

Many of the trainers developed significant digestive issues, depression, high blood pressure, fatty liver, anxiety, and pain in their body!   All this in four months or less time span!

Some were advised by their doctors to stop the program early due to being at high risk for a heart attack or developing Type II Diabetes.

But the one thing that caught my attention was their depression, sadness, mood swings and lack of motivation to get out of bed.

The other thing was when the four months was up, and it was time to start eating better, the trainers had some severe withdrawals from all the junk food.  They craved it like crazy.

Eating a ton of processed foods has a negative effect on your health, and that includes the health of your brain!

Other foods to watch out for that are highly inflammatory foods and affect the health of the brain and gut are:

  • Gluten/Wheat
  • Soy
  • Corn
  • Dairy
  • Alcohol
  • Artificial Dyes and Sweeteners
  • Excess Sugar

These foods can disrupt gut health, cause inflammation in the body, chronic fatigue, brain fog, migraines, and joint pain.  All which negatively affect the health of our brain.

Now I can’t give you the negative without giving you something positive!
