It’s that wonderful time of year – the Holidays. Where we are presented with tons of food, sweets and drinks. And we are EXPECTED to eat them. I mean this type of feast only comes around once a year right??
Some of us get major anxiety around Thanksgiving. We have worked so hard in living a healthier lifestyle and this one day is going to blow it all to hell!!
We have pep talks with ourselves that we won’t eat this or that but when it comes down to making our plates, we end up diving straight in the middle of the buffet table, covering every inch of our bodies in the wonderful glorious food.
Ok maybe that doesn’t actually happen but it’s a pretty good metaphor for how we feel when approaching the buffet.
Or maybe we are opposite and we have already made the decision to pile our plates high, stuff every last bite in our mouths until we are literally about to puke, unbutton our pants and pass the ____ out!
Either way, we usually end the day and weekend in a food coma and left with major digestive issues for most of the week.
So how can we enjoy all the wonderful food and avoid the coma?
First I would like to point out the fact that the food we have at Thanksgiving isn’t really all that special. What makes it special is we save it for once or twice a year. My point is we can make a Turkey and Ham with all the fixings any time we feel like it.
So let’s take the Turkey and his friends off the pedestal for a moment and just acknowledge that fact!
Tips for avoiding the Thanksgiving Food Coma:
Tip #1: Honor Your Stomach – your tummy will give you all the indications you need of when you are full and it’s time to stop. Eat slowly, enjoy your meal and stop when full.
Tip #2: Remove FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) – This Holiday feast always reaps leftovers for DAYS!! You don’t have to eat everything in one day. Go ahead and set aside food you may want, like a slice of your favorite pie if you feel there may not be leftovers. But typically there are enough leftovers to feed an army, so remove the fear of missing out!!
Tip #3: Go For A Walk – Now that you have eaten until you are full and not stuffed, you have packed up your leftovers, it’s time to get outside and go for a walk with your family. I promise someone will take you up on this offer. Move around and help the food to digest. Plus getting out of the house and breathing in some fresh air is a great way to relax after slaving in the kitchen all day!!
Wouldn’t it be nice for once to not feel like crap on Thanksgiving? While everyone else is moaning, groaning and snoozing the day away, you could be enjoying not feeling miserable!!
Take these tips with you as you begin to approach all the food. Here’s to feeling satisfied and not like a stuffed Turkey!!
From our family to yours, we wish you a very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!! I am truly thankful for your support!!
